Is A Weight Loss Fast The Right Choice For Everybody?

By Erica Grant

Do weight loss fasts work for everyone or is this just the latest diet hype being sold by celebrities and companies who want to make a profit? These programs can be found in a number of versions. Some use lemon and pepper, others involve various combinations of fruit and vegetable juices. All of these programs generally encourage water and other fluids but they restrict or completely eliminate solid foods for some or all of the day and night.

Many medical professionals agree that fasting for short periods of time is not dangerous for a majority of people, but rather it can jump start your diet so that your results show quickly and it can help you stay motivated. Unless a physician recommends otherwise, you should not ever keep up a weight loss fasting program for more than a week. A majority of the time, even a few days can have a dramatic impact on how you look and feel.

A fast plan has many benefits. They can help you lose weight but they also make you healthier as long as you do not have any existing medical conditions that would cause this activity to be risky. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid this because of their increased caloric and nutrient needs during these periods. If you have kidney disease, liver function problems, cancer, diabetes, or other health problems then you should not start any new diet plan or weight loss program without consulting a doctor.

Experiences with fasting plans can have a wide variety of outcomes. Some people experience no side affects and do not react negatively when solid foods are cut out from their diet for a few days time. However, others may experience severe lack of energy, feel weak, get headaches, and feel hungry constantly. There are some particular things that you can try if you desire to continue fasting and you experienced any of these effects.

When you restrict food a common issue is a lack of energy and a feeling of fatigue. Try to avoid any activities that are hectic or that requires a lot of movement and a faster pace. This will help you conserve your strength for the things you must get done. Water, green tea, and other fluids can help you fight hunger and stay comfortable. Peppermint tea can fight headaches and chamomile tea can help you relax and let go of stress.
